Around 2 p.m., a walker who was on the banks of the Yvette basin, not far from the limit between Saulx-les-Chartreux and Champlan, noticed that something was floating near the bank, reports The Parisian. What could have been a simple tree trunk turned out to be in reality a human body.
Alerted, firefighters, including the underwater unit, quickly intervened to secure the scene and examine the victim. Initial findings revealed that the person, whose identity has not been determined, had already died when the body was recovered. Once the remains were taken care of, the Essonne gendarmes opened an investigation to elucidate the causes of death.
An open investigation
The Essonne gendarmes, responsible for the investigation, made the first findings. The body was extracted from the water and transported to the forensic institute in order to perform an autopsy. The results of this examination, which should be carried out in the coming days, should provide key elements to determine the exact causes of death and especially how long she had been immersed in an aquatic environment.
The autopsy should also determine whether the victim was dead before ending up in the water. But for now, investigators are not ruling out any hypothesis. An external examination of the body did not reveal any traces of violence, which casts doubt on an accident, a desperate gesture or a criminal act.
A place of discovery that challenges
The place where the body was found is a retention pond, a quiet and uncrowded place. This element of the investigations could prove decisive for investigators. Is it a place chosen by the victim herself or a place where she was transported after her death? Investigators will therefore have to carefully examine the surroundings to try to find clues.
Furthermore, the Evry-Courcouronnes public prosecutor's office, contacted by our colleagues, confirmed the discovery, but nevertheless clarified that neither his identity, nor his age were yet known to investigators. It is therefore a complicated investigation which awaits us in the hope that the police will be able to shed light on the events.
