France Identity still has a long way to go to become a must-have among the French, and in particular before the new identity card in card format, aka the CNIe (National Electronic Identity Card), is in everyone's hands. It is also necessary for the government to improve access to services compatible with a simplified connection process, and good news, iGeneration has discovered a function designed for this in beta.

In an article shared on December 2, the media highlights that the version of the application (v1.3.2810) now facilitates connection with FranceConnect. We thus learn that it is no longer necessary to confirm authentication each time by reading the CNIe NFC chip.

Instead, a simplified authentication system was implemented. Activated by taking a photo of your ID card and scanning the NFC chip, the latter allows you to only use your smartphone's unlocking system to identify yourself.

iGeneration then tried its hand at manipulation with France Titles, a platform designed in particular for administrative procedures around driving licenses, passports and even identity cards. After clicking on “Log in with FranceConnect”, the specialized Apple site selected “France Identity” as the authentication method.

From then on, a QR Code was displayed. Scanned with the France Identity application, the latter then launched identification via Face ID to validate the connection. Reading the CNIe's NFC chip has thus been replaced by the iPhone's unlocking method, here Face ID face recognition technology.

Note that the media explains that this authentication method does not currently work with the reinforced version of the FranceConnect authentication service, aka FranceConnect+. As a reminder, the latter is used in particular for MonCompteFormation, dematerialized voting proxy, opening bank accounts, access to medical files or MaPrimeRénov.

It now remains to be seen whether this new process will be extended in the future to FranceConnect+ or whether it should remain limited to the traditional FranceConnect. In the meantime, beta testers are entitled to a conclusive start with this authentication system, which should remain in experimental phase for a few more weeks before being deployed to all users.
