A few days before the end of year celebrations, this is a sentence that comes at a bad time for the Bouchart farm in Chocques (Pas-de-Calais). The operation and the business manager were sentenced to fines by the Béthune judicial court on Thursday November 28 for deceptive commercial practices, reports The Voice of the North . The events took place from March 2021 to February 2022.
Since 2021, the company no longer raises its poultry outdoors for its foie gras and has sourced its products from a wholesaler. However, the mention “le foie gras de l’Artois” on the labels had not been removed. The co-manager, contacted by our colleagues, defended herself: “We were drowning and that’s why we called on an outside breeder. ».
Change name
Furthermore, the company must stop using the term “farm”. The co-manager explained that it allows us to recall the history of the operation, “an old farm in the 1900s”. From now on, it is called “Maison Bouchart”.
Foie gras is a highly controlled product, in particular by the Directorate General for Competition, Consumption and Fraud Prevention. She is responsible for checking “the composition of blocks of foie gras and preparations containing foie gras, such as pâtés, mousses, galantines and other duck or goose liver specialties”indicates the Ministry of the Economy on its website. This year, the price of foie gras should fall by 5 to 6% in supermarkets.
