The Réunion Region announces the revision of the multi-year energy programming

On Monday, December 2, 2024, the Réunion Region and the State announced the review of the multi-year energy programming (PPE) at the Hôtel de Région. The PPE is specific to each overseas territory. It makes it possible to set objectives over five to 10 years in order to achieve an independent and 100% renewable energy supply. We publish the press release below. (Photo: Réunion Region)

This year, five years after its constitution in 2019, the multi-annual energy programming (PPE) is revised based on energy governance, a unifying body which calls on all stakeholders in the energy transition, such as communities, industrialists, associations as well as members of civil society.

Halfway through the multiannual energy programming (PPE), the results are positive:

is a pioneer, with a 100% renewable electricity mix and the cessation of the importation of fossil fuels for electricity production since 2024.

-The development of onshore wind power, but especially photovoltaics, has enabled the share of renewable energies in electricity production to reach 57%.

The Region and the State are supporting communities and project leaders with a finalized solar cadastre as well as a regional wind plan currently being finalized. Among the priorities of this revision of the EPP are the development of renewable energies, a reduction in fossil energy in mobility and an adaptation of the energy network to the needs of the territory.

Huguette Bello, President of the Region, explains this: “The revision of the PPE is a unique opportunity to lay the foundations for a sustainable and just energy future. But it can only succeed with the commitment of all stakeholders. During the first year of review, I will propose the organization of a “regional energy consultation”. These meetings will bring together all the stakeholders concerned (citizens, communities, State, businesses and experts) to co-construct the final steps towards energy autonomy. Together, let’s ensure that this revision of the PPE marks the start of a lasting transformation, for a stronger, more united and more resilient Reunion”
