Lorient will be back in Touraine on Saturday December 21! After having eliminated Monnaie in the previous round this weekend (0-5) on the Amboise lawn, the Merlus, currently third in Ligue 2, will indeed face Tours FC (R1) in 32es of final. The opportunity for Olivier Pantaloni, the Lorient coach and former coach of the Touraine club, to return to the Cher Valley.
A tough challenge for the men of Bergougnoux, but there is no doubt that they will be transcended in front of a large expected audience.

Lorient residents aiming to climb to Ligue 1
Placed in group C during the draw, the Tourangeaux could have fallen on five Ligue 1 clubs: Paris SG, Lens, Angers, Rennes or even Le Havre. It will therefore be Lorient, an ambitious Ligue 2 club which logically aspires to return to the elite.
After a lively off-season and a delicate start to the season in the championship, it was nevertheless difficult to imagine this Tours FC in 32es final of the Coupe de France in December. And yet, there it is. A first since the 2019-2020 season and an elimination against the Crocodiles de Nîmes, then in Ligue 1 (2-2, 2-4 tab).
As a reminder, Tours FC is one of the little thumbs in the competition with the three other Regional 1 teams still in the running (Still-Mutzig, Mérignac and Union Saint-Jean) and the two Overseas clubs (Saint-Joseph and Saint-Denis).
After their victories against La Riche (0-3, D1), Saint-Pierre-des-Corps (1-7, D1), Vendôme (0-4, R3), Touvent Châteauroux (0-4, D1), Montlouis (2-1, N3), US Montagnarde (R1) and Cesson (N3), the Tourangeaux will have to create the feat this time to hope to prolong the adventure.
