The French Basketball Federation has revealed the list of those selected for the Paris Games. Three athletes who have been or are from Roannais have been selected.

No more doubts. Roannais is indeed a land of basketball. The Olympic Games will be there to prove it. Three athletes who have passed through the north of the Loire will represent three of the four teams involved in this major world event.

In the men’s category, Guerschon Yabusele will wear the tricolor jersey for the 5×5 matches. Currently at Real Madrid (Spain), he was trained at the Chorale de Roanne before trying an American adventure. He finally decided to return to this side of the Atlantic.

Timothé Vergiat coached by Karim Souchu

French 3X3 hero Timothé Vergiat will also be there. The 26-year-old from Roanne scored the decisive basket to qualify his team for the Paris Games last May. He will be coached by Karim Souchu, who wore the Chorale jersey during the 2008-2009 season and in 2011.

“What guided my choice was having the most complementary team possible. I needed to have the opportunity to see the players who came from 5×5 and who finished the season a little later. I wanted to see and give these players a chance to evaluate them. This guided my choice for the final selection, which is made up of experienced players who have references in 3×3 and who know the discipline very well,” reveals the technician regarding the development of his list.

Entry into the competition on July 27

Finally, Laetitia Guapo will be the only woman with a Roanne connection to represent France. The native of Clermont-Ferrand wore the Roannais Basket Féminin jersey during the 2016-2017 season.

The 5×5 men’s basketball tournament will begin on Saturday, July 27 in Lille. As for the 3X3, the first matches will be played from Tuesday, July 30 in Paris.
