[DIGITAL Business Africa] – Installed at the general management of Free Senegal, this first of July 2024, Kamal Okba enjoys the qualities that are sought in a leader. Fahd Bennani, a player in the telecommunications industry in Africa, confirms this on his Linkedln account.

Fahd Bennani is the CEO of Cosmos Electro and the MD of the Thriathlon group, which also specializes in retail.

Moroccan Kamal Okba, a telecoms expert and pan-African manager, has arrived at the second largest telecoms operator in Senegal behind Orange, with around 24% of the mobile market share. The figures show that Free Senegal has increased its turnover by 20% in three years. According to the operator, this figure exceeds 100 billion CFA francs (i.e. more than 153 million euros). Kamal Okba replaces Mamadou Mbengue, former CEO of Free Senegal, who will “pursue new opportunities”. This change was ordered by Axian Telecom, one of the main pan-African telecommunications groups.

Kamal Okba was CEO of Tigo Tanzania, Anxian Group (July 2022-July 2024). But before that, he will hold several positions of responsibility, including that of CEO Airtel Gabon from January 2020 to June 2022. General Administrator of Airtel Mobile Money Gabon, from February 2020 to November 2021; CEO of Tigo Chad (March 2017-November 2019). VP B2C Market at Inwi from 2016 to 2017; CEO of Mauritel from February 2011 to November 2015. Regional director at Maroc Telecom from 2007 to 2011; CEO of Casanet SA, a subsidiary of Maroc Telecom between 2002 and 2005, not to mention the position of Internet Operations Manager at Maroc Telecom from 1996 to 2002.

He has several training courses to his credit. In particular, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) (2006-2008), obtained at the École des Ponts Business School, a Master in Computer Science, Networking of computer systems and telecommunications, awarded by the University of Côte d’Azur (1994-1995). At the National School of Mines in Rabat, he obtained a state engineering diploma. In Computer Science after spending four years there (1990-1994). Kamal Okba was even vice-president of the Computer Science club.
