A father threw his two children out of a fifth-floor window on Saturday, July 6, before committing suicide. Here is the account of the evening as seen by the neighborhood.

A tragedy occurred this Saturday in the 14th arrondissement of Paris. François, 48, threw his two children out of the window of his fifth-floor apartment before throwing himself into the void. The children, aged two and five, were seriously injured and taken to Necker Hospital with their life in danger.

“I knew they shouldn’t fall asleep.”

Céline, a neighbour of the couple, was one of the first to react. “We heard terrible screams. I realised I had to go up and check. I went up straight away, I knocked, I knocked, I rang the bell,” she told RTL. When she opened the door, Grace, François’ partner, was covered in blood and in shock. “She gave her husband’s first name and said he had thrown himself out the window and thrown the children out the window,” continued Céline, visibly moved by the scene.

Immediately, Celine went down the stairs to help the children who had fallen ten meters below. “I crouched down between the two children. I started talking to them, so that they wouldn’t be afraid. I knew they shouldn’t fall asleep,” she added.

Celine’s 10-year-old son John also witnessed the horrific scene from their living room window. “When I poked my head out to look, I saw the older one on the ground. Then I saw the younger one fall into the void. Neither of them screamed as they fell, as if they were drugged. And two seconds later, I saw the father jump,” he explained to Parisian.
