The mayor of Limoges, Émile-Roger Lombertie, was attacked on Sunday evening in front of the Town Hall while he was trying to put out a barbecue lit by demonstrators celebrating the victory of the New Popular Front. The activists, armed with flags and musical instruments, had gathered in the town hall square after the announcement of the results of the legislative elections. While trying to use water from the fountain to put out the flames, the mayor was surrounded by about fifteen individuals who insulted and hit him, France Bleu Limousin learned on Sunday, July 7.

Testimonies from the mayor’s entourage and some people present vary slightly on the details of the altercation, with some mentioning ” punches ” and others simply speaking of a ” jostling “, with France Bleu and The Parisian. According to the latest media, Émile-Roger Lombertie was insulted by ” torch ” and of “ rapist ” in connection with an ongoing harassment investigation.
