Uchaud was the flagship town of the Telethon in the Gard, but the mobilization was large this Saturday to raise funds intended for research into rare genetic diseases. Overview of Nîmes, Beaucaire and even Uzès.
At Uchaud
This year, Uchaud was designated as the flagship town of the Téléthon Gard-Sud after raising more than €10,000 during the 2023 collection. Residents, associations and elected officials were rewarded for their commitment. To honor this charitable event, the City of Uchaud has been preparing for a long time. “We have been organizing the Telethon for six months. This is a big job that we are doing in collaboration with the municipal associations which are fully involved with elected officials, staff, security and communication. We are fighting the disease together and we want to raise a nice sum to cure children and help with research,” supports Joffrey Léon, mayor of Uchaud.
In front of the Multicultural room, a 400 m² medieval village is recreated with five different companies. Around twenty activities from the Middle Ages are offered. “Adults or children, everyone can participate. In particular, we provide combat initiation, ax throwing, archery, medieval hairdressing and illumination workshops. explains Aurélie Coste, organizer and member of the Montpellier company Merces. Additionally, a cardboard castle is in the center of the village. The objective is to garnish it with milk cartons decorated by the children.
The Gard firefighters are also there. “It is a noble cause and one that is close to our mission, to help the population. It was important for us to come and support research for the Telethon,” says the president of the Vergèze firefighters association. To the delight of children, a fire truck ride is offered by professionals.
A spear games workshop through a course is also organized so that young people can discover the profession. Many Uchaud associations have a stand to support the cause. All funds will be donated for the Telethon. This Sunday the festivities continue! The medieval village is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and at 5:30 p.m., a giant lotto is organized in the Multicultural Room.
In Nimes
It is, like last year, at the University of Nîmes (Vauban site) that the Telethon Village was installed from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Here, sports workshops and numerous activities were offered for a token (one euro) to be purchased on site or online. Inflatable castle, krav-maga, blowgun, armchair basketball, chess games, baseball, archery, interactive game aid… Even a zip line descent directly into the moat of Fort Vauban was organized for lovers of thrills!
On site, a signing session by Flora Vautier, the bronze medalist in table Tennis at the 2024 Paralympic Games, was also on the program. Generous participants could take a few selfies with the Olympic mascots and even the Olympic torch.
There were also demos of Sevillian dance and even popped rock. But it was probably the one-kilometre walk that attracted the biggest crowds. City of Nîmes and Zonta club joined forces for a departure from Les Halles, a passage to the arenas then a return up Boulevard Victor-Hugo.
Also playing the Telethon game, the Nîmes Tourist Office offered a great raffle with the two-euro ticket, numerous prizes to be won such as a gourmet meal for two people in a Nîmes establishment… Be careful, you can still play, because The draw will take place on Monday, December 9!
Last year, the Telethon in Nîmes raised 130,000 euros (930,000 in Gard), including 20,000 on the ground (in Nîmes).
In Beaucaire

Various activities were offered by different associations in the area from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tombola, introductions to tennis, MMA boxing, rowing challenge, music, fire brigade entertainment, sale of cakes, Italian products, drinks, books, jewelry, crockery, games, etc.
In Uzes
In the ducal city, mobilization was still strong this year for the Telethon, around the organizing committee led by Marie-Laure Frin and Bernard Perrier. Thus, many associations, such as Fenestrelle, AVF and Radio Fuze had stands. Zumba and hip-hop activities, the composition of a heart of 200 roses by the Fleurs d'Uzès or the creation of a giant paella by the town hall's protocol service, with ingredients donated by the Carrefour supermarket , were also on the program, as was a tango marathon by the Tabou Tango association or a raffle generously endowed by Uzetian traders. The geneticist and former MP Philippe Berta gave a conference yesterday afternoon. The day before, a concert was held in the town hall.
But the highlight of the show was offered by the Uzès Fire Brigade Association, with the possibility of climbing into the basket of the large ladder 24 meters high. Enough to have a breathtaking view of the duchy, and treat yourself to some thrills in return for a donation.

The Telethon continues this Sunday in Uzès, with a show, “The fabulous story of Beauty and the Beast”, offered at 11 a.m. in the town hall. The organizers hope to do at least as well as last year, which saw the Uzetian events raise the tidy sum of 11,500 euros.
