For several months now, the sub-prefecture of Pontarlier has been hosting strange tenants. At the bottom of the garden, six chickens have taken up residence and not only provide fresh eggs, but also get rid of organic waste. A good example to raise awareness among children about recycling trash. And it is precisely in this context that a CM1 class from the Cyril-Clerc school came to visit the sub-prefecture a few days ago.

“This is the first time we’ve done this. The idea is to explain to children the issue of waste management because it is with young people that we manage to get older generations moving,” underlines Nicolas Onimus, sub-prefect of Pontarlier. “And then we think it’s a project that works well. Employees leave their trash after their lunch and from time to time, they leave with a carton of eggs. »

“We also talk about sorting”

Led by Préval, the workshop allowed children to become aware of waste reduction in the broad sense. “This involves organic waste and we talk a lot about compost. We therefore often take the children to the composters to show them how things work inside while explaining to them what we are allowed to put inside,” highlights Élodie Mairot, Préval facilitator. “We also talk about sorting and how to produce less packaging on a daily basis. » Cyril-Clerc's students, like others, will participate in several workshops on this theme.

An action to be renewed

The first part seems to have excited them. “I really enjoyed coming here and feeding the chickens,” Leonardo says. An opinion shared by Noam for whom the morning was rich in learning. “I learned that you could put compost in the trash,” says the boy. As for the sub-prefecture, we have not ruled out repeating the operation. “It’s an internal waste recycling project, but we are a public service, so it’s also a way to do a little educational communication,” concludes Nicolas Onimus.
