Saturday afternoon (5 p.m.), Le Puy Foot (N2) will challenge Agde (N3) for a place in the round of 32 of the Coupe de France. The Ponots have become accustomed to creating surprises in this competition, with numerous exploits against professional clubs. But sometimes, the Vellaves have also been snagged by lower level teams. A look back at their last five misadventures.
2015. Saint-Flour (DH) 1 – 0 Le Puy Foot (CFA) in the 5th round.
Nine years ago, while Le Puy Foot was playing in the CFA (fourth division), he was released by Saint-Flour (in white in the photo), resident of DH (sixth division). The Cantalous were able to create a surprise thanks to a goal scored very early in the game. From the 3rd minute, Bayol was launched into the open field and presented himself alone against the goalkeeper and the last Ponot defender. With a fake shot, he caught his two opponents cold to score the only goal of the match. Roland Vieira's players then tried to turn the tide. Pouille, Sall and Tack: all came up against Wally Faye, the local doorman. The lack of realism and success was the problem for Saint-Flour who held on to his feat, resisting until the last moments. After experiencing a very difficult first part of the season during this 2015-2016 financial year, Le Puy Foot ended up winning its position on the edge, in the CFA.
