An evening that promises to be memorable. This Thursday, September 7, the reopening of Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral will take place, five years after the terrible fire which decimated it. On the program, a concert organized by France Télévisions and supported by several headliners.
According to France Télévisions, singers Clara Luciani and Vianney will be there. Just like the Chinese pianist Lang Lang and the French DJ Michael Canitrot, who notably performed at the Eiffel Tower on the occasion of the centenary of the death of Gustave Eiffel.
The South African soprano Pretty Yende, who sang for the coronation of King Charles III, and the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra, with the Venezuelan maestro Gustavo Dudamel at the helm, will also be in the spotlight during this concert.
The opportunity also for the Master of Notre-Dame de Paris to regain its setting, more than five years after the fire of April 15, 2019, which ravaged part of this 12th century monument.
Also expected are the Franco-Georgian pianist Khatia Buniatishvili, the Franco-American cellist Yo-Yo Ma, the Swedish violin prodigy Daniel Lozakovich and the Franco-Swiss tenor Benjamin Bernheim.
Finally, on the pop side, the Franco-Beninese star Angélique Kidjo and Garou are announced. The show will take place in front of the cathedral and is scheduled for 9:05 p.m. It will be co-broadcast by Radio France.
Several ceremonies planned
The concert will close the first day of reopening ceremonies, which will begin with a speech by Emmanuel Macron on the square, followed by a liturgical ceremony in the presence of foreign heads of state, the list of which has not yet been revealed. A first concert is also scheduled at this time.
Sunday, December 8, a first mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in the presence of 150 French and foreign bishops, as well as the President of the Republic. The first mass open to the public will be held the same day at 6:30 p.m.
From December 9 to 15, several masses will be dedicated to donors, patrons, merchants and residents of the Notre-Dame district. In total, some 15 million annual visitors are expected to the cathedral.
