Spain – Germany was one of the most anticipated matches of the tournament. René Vandereycken looked back on this clash, not being able to help but wonder how the Red Devils would have behaved against these two teams.

René Vandereycken enjoyed watching the match between Spain and Germany and does not hide his admiration for La Roja: “Yamal, Rodri, Williams… I enjoy watching all three of them. They are all very important to the team in their own way. Fabian Ruiz also, which at times shows incredible things,” he told Nieuwsblad.

He also gave an initial assessment of Germany, eliminated in the quarter-finals of “his” Euro: “Rüdiger impressed me in the last matches. He was tough in the duels and his long balls to the attackers were precise. I expected a little more from Musiala, a brilliant player.”

Spain to challenge France for place in final

Both teams were among the favourites for the tournament but our former coach still says: “Spain and Germany have top teams, but I’m not sure they would beat the Devils easily.”

He explains: “The Belgium has a team that, if it has space, can beat anyone. But there were a lot of mistakes made during this Euro. The intrinsic attacking qualities have always been there in Belgium, but they were not exploited in the right way.”

Will Domenico Tedesco manage to turn things around for the 2026 World Cup?
