Mazda is preparing a 35th anniversary edition of its MX-5

The Mazda MX-5, also known as the Miata, is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, having first arrived in 1989 as a 1990 model. To celebrate the occasion, the company will be releasing a 35th Anniversary Edition.

The news was recently confirmed by Shigeki Saito, head of the Miata program.

It will be remembered that the company had done the same for the 30th anniversary of the model. There will be a significant difference this time in the way of doing things. Indeed, while the number of units was limited to 3000 (500 for America) five years ago, this time the 35th anniversary version will be offered for a certain time, but without any limit on the number of copies. Thus, those who want one will only have to order within the authorized period.

And what will this model offer? We expect unique wheels, Recaro seats, more efficient brakes and smarter chassis adjustments, among other things. The anniversary version could also offer one or more unique colors.

Mechanically, nothing should change with the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that offers 181 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque.

The big question will be whether the special edition will be offered here. That’s certainly to be hoped, given the MX-5’s popularity on this side of the planet.

At Mazda, no changes have been made regarding the 2025 model so far, but the company mentions that it will have things to share in the winter of 2024-2025.

To be continued.
