Everyone still remembers, and not only in France, the flames which devastated the cathedral. This arrow attacked by fire, then losing its fight by staggering, until it collapses. Remarkable images, whether we embrace the religious question or not. The monument is indeed, for many, above all a heritage jewel.
It must be admitted, however, that an impressive news item finally gave rise to hope that, in our country, everything is not so bad after all. Weird ? Not really. It took almost 200 years to construct the building. Barely five years to bring it back to life. Of course, everything has not collapsed in 2019. Of course, modern means have nothing to do with those of yesteryear. But still.
The thousands of craftsmen – magicians you could say – who worked for months and months to restore its luster, have reason to be proud. The President of the Republic reminded them this Friday that they are perhaps the best in the world in their field. That French know-how is a reality. Not just a figment of the imagination. That when we want, we simply can. Okay, this resurrection will have cost hundreds of millions of euros. And there, we will be told that with money, we can do anything. Including going fast, even on huge construction sites.
But if we see things a little less critically, a little more positively, we can say to ourselves, quite simply, that the result of five years of work gives us a really good breath of fresh air and the opportunity to get excited.
