Road mortality up 14% in Reunion, the prefecture calls for caution

Thirty-two people died on the roads of between Monday 1is January and Sunday November 24, 2024. This is already more than the number of deaths recorded in traffic accidents during the whole of 2023, which had reached 30. This increase in mortality caused a reaction from local authorities, explains Meeting The 1st Thursday November 28.

On its Facebook page, the prefecture indicated Wednesday, November 27 that the annual increase was 14% regarding the number of people who died and 7% for the number of accidents resulting in injuries or deaths. This is why state representatives called on the population to be careful on the roads.

La prudence s’impose

The prefect reminded the social network of important rules to respect. When driving, it is particularly recommended to respect the Highway Code regarding speed, to observe your surroundings carefully and to maintain your vehicle. Witnesses to an accident must, for their part, notify emergency services, take steps to avoid another accident and, if they have received training, come to the aid of the victims.

The publication also indicates that motorists involved in an accident are asked to take their car and its passengers to safety, to signal themselves by operating the hazard lights, by placing a triangle upstream and by wearing a vest. YELLOW.
