A father received a five-year prison sentence, with a three-year probationary suspension, Thursday November 28, 2024, for trying to kill his disabled son in Dourlers (North), indicates The Voice of the North .

Impaired discernment

In 2021, he called his wife to announce his intentions. The latter had warned their neighbors, who intervened just in time to stop the accused, holed up in his home with a weapon.

The issue of the trial was to know whether this father was himself on the day of the events. A question which has not been resolved by psychological expertise. “His wife and neighbors repeatedly said he was unrecognizable that day.”argued the defense. The Advocate General, for her part, mentioned “the risk of recurrence”. The court ultimately upheld the alteration of discernment. The accused asked his son for forgiveness.
