Diourbel, July 5 (APS) – The Diourbel region (center) has received 98.72% of its peanut seeds for the 2024-2025 agricultural campaign, APS learned on Friday from its regional director of rural development, Souleymane Diop.

“The planting of peanut seeds is continuing in the region. It is almost complete,” he said, specifying that 5,153.4 tonnes have been delivered to the three departments of the region, which represents 98.72% of the quota of 5,220 tonnes intended for local farmers.

Only the department of Diourbel received its entire quota, Souleymane Diop said in an interview with APS.

Regarding sales, 2,104.3 tonnes intended for this department were sold, which represents 41% of its quota, according to Mr. Diop.

As in other regions, the administrative authorities have created commissions responsible for distributing agricultural inputs (fertilizers, seeds, etc.) to farmers who want to acquire them, he said.

There are 45 distribution commissions in the regional territory: 13 for the department of Bambey, 14 for that of Diourbel and 18 for that of Mbacké.

According to Souleymane Diop, the defense and security forces (police, gendarmes and military) are involved in the distribution of agricultural inputs and equipment, as in other regions.

Farmers in the region are still waiting for the first rain to fully embark on winter activities.
