Two American soldiers were attacked during the night from Thursday to Friday, in the heart of Marseille.
Currently on a stopover in Marseille, two American army soldiers, assigned to the aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman, were violently attacked in the streets of Marseille during the night from Thursday to Friday.
Attacked by several individuals, the two soldiers were hospitalized, specifies La Provence, this Friday.
According to our colleagues, the soldiers were victims of theft of their jewelry and mobile phones and then received beatings. One of the soldiers remained on the ground before being taken care of by Marseille firefighters.
The events allegedly took place around 2 a.m. in the 1st arrondissement of Marseille, on the Place du Général de Gaulle not far from the Old Port.
La Provence further specifies that a 17-year-old boy was arrested in connection with this affair. He had on him the chain taken from one of the American soldiers.
The USS Harry S. Truman spent several weeks in Northern Europe before moving to the Mediterranean. 5,000 sailors live on board the aircraft carrier which should remain in Marseille until December 3.
