67% of household packaging and 63% of graphic papers were recycled in France in 2023, according to figures published by Citéo. But with only 27% of plastic packaging, despite an increase of 15% thanks to the extension of instructions, we are still far from the objectives set by the European Union of 50% in 2025.
The eco-organization Citéo welcomes the recycling rate of household packaging which reached 67% in 2023: 58 kg per person per year (33 kg of glass and 25 kg of light packaging), up 1.5 kg compared to last year. These results vary depending on the material: from 86% for glass and steel, 69% for paper and cardboard, to only 37% for aluminum and 27% for plastics. France will therefore still have to pay a high plastic tax to the European Union in 2024 (1.6 billion in 2023) due to its inability to achieve its objectives (50% in 2025 and 55% in 2030).
