A patrol car crashed into a traffic light in downtown Lévis on Friday morning. The vehicle crashed into the windshield of a passing bus, injuring two people.

At around 7:10 a.m., the Lévis Police Department (SPVL) was called to the scene of an accident that occurred on Boulevard Étienne-Dallaire, at the intersection of Rue Weyman.

At the scene, the police found that a Sûreté du Québec patrol vehicle had collided with the signaling device, causing it to fall.

He landed head-on on a Société de transport de Lévis bus that was traveling westbound. The heavy vehicle was completely pierced by the lower part of the metal structure.

Two injured

The incident required the bus driver and the patrol officer who was driving to hospital. The severity of their injuries is not yet known.

SPVL spokesperson Véronique Blouin is unable to say whether passengers were on board the bus at the time of the violent impact.

“We don’t know how the accident happened or why the police car crashed into a traffic light. The scene is cordoned off and we have collision investigators on site to understand what could have happened,” she explains.

No impact on traffic

The spokesperson also wanted to point out that the event occurred in a less busy area of ​​Étienne-Dallaire Boulevard. There were therefore no major repercussions on traffic during rush hour.

The boulevard is closed in both directions around the scene of the accident to allow police to do their work.
