The industrial wasteland of Fives-Cail has Lille (North) continues its transformation. A few weeks after the inauguration of Chaud Bouillon, a new friendly place opened its doors in June 2024: the Fives-Cail brewery ! Anthony D’Orazioits founder, presents this new place to us, where beer is made and tasted.

A project in mind for (at least) 10 years

The story of this brewery begins… 10 years ago! In 2014, Anthony, who dreams of one day opening his own brewery, visits the Fives-Cail site, then still very much “in its own juice”. It is a real love at first sight for the brewer, who already has several establishments in the area. beer cellarsand several bars : La Capsule in Lille and Arras (2021) and L’Oxford in Wazemmes.

“This is our first production site, in Fives-Cail,” proudly announces the head of the company, this new project finally completed. “It’s a long period with its ups and downs that is ending, it’s a new one that is beginning,” breathes the chemical engineer and professional brewer, who notably worked for Les 3 Brasseurs.

For him, opening a brewery in Fives-Cail makes perfect sense. “This site has a very rich history! I found out about the past of the factory, for which 8,000 people worked.” He highlights the values of beer, simplicity and conviviality, which are found in the working-class environment. Coming from Lens, he was drawn to this site rich in history, which he wants to see as a new place to live in the neighborhood. “There are a lot of people who live in Fives. And many go elsewhere to go out. We want to attract people from the neighborhood,” he aims.

The first beer at 2.50 euros

In the Fives-Cail brewery, there will be four permanent beers, and around twenty ephemeral creations, depending on the seasons and the inspirations of the three brewers. The permanent beers each carry a name in reference to the story of Fives Cail : La Pont Levant (East Coast IPA, 6.5% alcohol), L’Ascenseur (French Hoppy Ale, 4.5% alcohol), La Locomotive (Belgian Pale Ale, 6.2% alcohol) and L’Internationale (Triple, 8.5%).

Anthony announces affordable prices : the first beer, craft, is displayed at 2.50 euros, the others between 3 and 4, mainly. “We want to offer well-made and accessible products,” insists Anthony. “And also more specialized beers, for the curious, the connoisseurs.”

A taproom with terrace

Adjoining the brewery, we find the taproomwhich allows you to taste beers live. It is divided into two spaces, dont a covered terrace of 100 m² that can accommodate 100 people. The same surface area inside can accommodate 80 people. In terms of decoration, the codes of the site’s history are respected, with high ceilings and wooden and metal furniture. All enhanced with colorful seats! There are also comfortable seats in more cozy spaces.

In addition to drinks, the chef offers a service of snacksinspired by Italian specialties. Simple and effective, like the brewery’s beers. Italian sandwiches and generous focaccias are on the menu. The specialties also bear the first names of Anthony’s parents, a small family tribute, which makes perfect sense in this very personal project.

Anthony slips that it is possible to place an order, and to collect them in click and collectbut also to privatize the premises, to visit the brewery by reservation and even to follow training courses, on site. A place that opens up many possibilities and where, for sure, great discoveries will be made… hoppy, of course!
