The third attempt orchestrated on Wednesday evening, July 3, 2024, to repair the broken water pipe in the territory of Quimper (Finistère) once again proved unsuccessful.

On Thursday, July 4, 2024, the town halls are organizing distributions of bottles of water, provided by Saur, to the residents of Gouesnac’h, Saint-Évarzec, Clohars-Fouesnant and Pleuven.

An interconnection between the networks of Quimper Bretagne occidentale (QBO) and Saint-Évarzec is planned in order to supply the town with running water by the weekend. Similarly, companies in Troyalac’h (Saint-Évarzec) with tanks should be supplied with water shortly. Solidarity should also be exercised by the southern Bigouden country, which would temporarily support Clohars-Fouesnant.

A meeting should be held in the afternoon to decide on more technical and sustainable solutions.

The break has no consequences for Bénodet, Fouesnant and La Forêt-Fouesnant since they do not depend on the same network. At the Clohars-Fouesnant campsite, for example, the water supply is provided by Bénodet.

Please note that Festidreuz, which takes place in the Fouesnant area from July 5 to 7, is also not affected.

“A major incident”

“We’re not going to lie to each other, this is a major incident, confirms Roger Le Goff, president of the Community of Communes of the Fouesnantais region, during a press briefing this Thursday at the end of the morning. With the humidity of the ground and the flow drawn, all the elements are combined for the slightly fragile pipes to break.

This new incident on a drinking water pipeline raises the question of the dependence of certain municipalities. It accelerates a reflection in progress, on the scale of the Fouesnantais country, on the search for new resources.

Several actors

As a reminder, Saur is the public service delegate for the Quimper Bretagne occidentale (QBO) communities and the Pays Fouesnantais community of communes (CCPF). Veolia is the delegate for the Aulne mixed union, which produces drinking water for 51 municipalities in Finistère. It manages the interconnection pipeline to the municipalities of southern Finistère.
