SOS Calvaires, an association for the protection of Christian heritage marked by the extreme right, was entrusted by the diocese of with the mission of manufacturing a large cross and liturgical furniture for Pope Francis' trip to Corsica.

Promoted by some of the best-known, and not the least radical, influencers of the fascist sphere, the SOS Calvaires association is a structure whose mission is to restore and multiply these crosses which dot the countryside. Like a “a flag that we plant and which says: “Here is Christian land””claimed its president.

A movement with marked identity accents, linked to a whole part of the movement. This did not prevent SOS Calvaires from being entrusted with the creation of a large cross and liturgical furniture which will be used during the visit of Pope Francis to Corsica, on December 15, by the vicar general of the diocese of Ajaccio, Abbot Frédéric Constant. Contacted, however, he assures that there is no “fundamentalist or political connotation” in this choice.

“The great achievements of these young people”

“They contacted me to restore calvaries in Corsica some time ago and it was on this occasion that the idea of entrusting them with this mission came to me, assumes Frédéric Constant. In Corsica, there is no controversy. I don't want us to focus on the great achievements of these young people throughout . Maybe they have a little more conviction…” The abbot interrupts, then adds: “…But there’s none of that behind it.”
