Angoulême: Thomas Mesnier activist violently attacked, “they pinned him to the ground before beating him up”

Part of the scene filmed

It was at this same moment that he was attacked by another group, made up of several individuals. Coming out of nowhere. “He was surprised. They stole his cell phone before violently insulting him. Homophobic insults. He had time to get his cell phone back. The attackers then pinned him to the ground before beating him up, hitting him several times,” relates Thomas Mesnier. The candidate, who qualified for the second round, attests to facial injuries. “A black eye and severe pain in several parts of the body. The doctor gave him a certificate with 20 days of ITT.”

Still according to the Horizons camp, the young activist filmed part of the scene. “We recognize faces. People who are apparently far-left. I immediately called René Pilato, who apparently recognized one of the individuals. He told me that he was not part of his teams.” The outgoing MP assures that he “led the investigation among his troops. He is not one of our activists. When they post posters, they have very specific instructions, we don’t do that kind of thing. If Mr. Mesnier holds us responsible, it is very dishonest of him. I myself told this kid to go and file a complaint.”

A complaint and an investigation are underway

Almost a week after the attack, the young activist is doing better. “Even if his pain has not completely disappeared… But it is proof of the violence carried out by certain political movements. It is one of my fights. I give him all my support,” says Thomas Mesnier. On Wednesday, Prisca Thevenot, government spokesperson, and her deputy suffered a similar attack in Meudon (45).

Shocked and stunned after the events, the young victim actually filed a complaint. An investigation is underway. According to Thomas Mesnier, several hearings are currently underway.
