In Senegal, the seaside resort of Saly has been home to 1is July 2024, Climate and Energy Week, a framework intended to promote local solutions and highlight good practices in combating the harmful effects of climate change, with a view to consolidating efforts towards more sober and climate-resilient societies.

In the opinion of the CEO of Enda Energie, who was speaking at the opening ceremony of this Week, which will continue until Saturday, July 6, 2024, “the climate crisis is a global problem that requires a cooperative response. Solidarity is vital (and) we cannot face it alone.”

Emmanuel Seck recalled that there is much work to be done before COP 29. “If we want COP 29 to deliver what our people need, parties must step up and assume their responsibilities in terms of action and support,” he said. The 29th Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP 29) will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan from 11 to 22 November 2024.

“This is the whole challenge of this climate week, to mobilize both local and regional actors, (and) co-construct sustainable solutions adapted to the expectations of communities, but also to develop a strategy of political influence in view of COP 29,” he stressed.

The third session on climate and energy, which will focus primarily on local action, with a view to carbon sobriety and climate resilience, will be an opportunity to take stock of what has been done since the last conference of the parties in Dubai, COP 28, Mr. Seck recalled.
