After a complicated start to the season, the cadets gained strength throughout the matches to win the Challenge.

This season, the Alamercery cadets of Colomiers have experienced all the emotions but the last feeling felt is none other than immense pride. The pride of being able to brandish a trophy, of being an actor in a scene of jubilation that we had difficulty imagining, just a few months ago. “They have had a hell of a run, I won’t hide from you that after the first three games of the season we didn’t really know what it would be like”, recalls Eddy Lam, coach of the team with Stéphane Peysson and Frédéric Pedussaud. Authors of a failed first phase, the young Columérins finished in last place in their group with a record of 2 wins for 8 losses. “After the end-of-year celebrations, the group gained momentum, the boys faced adversity, they worked hard, hung on and showed incredible strength of character,” said Eddy, whose team beat the Northerners of the Rassemblement Métropolitain in the final of the Alamercery Challenge (15-13). A match for the title that reflected the season these youngsters have been through. “We were behind, as we have been in the last four matches, but we didn’t give up to secure a 12th victory in a row and the shield,” congratulated the champions’ coach.

3-3 at half-time, then the “Ententistes” made “La Colombe” doubt thanks to a restrictive but devilishly effective game. “They had a solid pack and were dangerous on the edge of the rucks but the boys showed maturity and management”, recalls Eddy. A try conceded at the restart brought the score to 3-8 before the Haut-Garonnais revolt. Julien and Barron crossed the goal line followed by an oh so important transformation by Castellarin (69th) to secure the victory. The last northern achievement could not prevent Colomiers from winning. “It’s deserved, they are rewarded and I can tell you that there was a lot of emotion, they had a hell of an adventure”, contemplates, still amazed, Eddy Lam.
