Another blow for Thierry Henry. The coach of the French Olympic team, which will play its first preparation match this Thursday against Paraguay (9:15 p.m. in Bayonne), has recorded the departure of one of its leaders in the person of Khephren Thuram.

The OGC Nice midfielder, announced as close to Juventus Turin by several Italian and French media, has left the Bleuets gathering, retained by his future club. A particularly inopportune timing, since the final list must be transmitted this evening before midnight.

“There is a player who has left: Khephren Thuram,” Henry revealed on Wednesday, visibly dejected at a press conference. “The club where he should normally go is opposed to his arrival. It is very hard in terms of what he represents in the game and in the group. It is not easy, but we will deal with it,” he confided, without mentioning the name of Juve where he himself played in 1999.

Son of Lilian and brother of Marcus, the 23-year-old midfielder, who has one cap for the French A team, was one of the most experienced players in the group put together by Thierry Henry. With 20 caps for the Espoirs, he even wore the captain’s armband during the friendly match against the United States last March.

Present at Clairefontaine since June 16, the date of the start of preparation, Thuram should sign with Juventus Turin for 25 million euros, bonuses included, in the coming hours.
