The old Paul-Delique stadium inAbbeville will vibrate once again on Saturday July 6 for the lancers meeting which is taking on a national dimension this year.

70 athletes responded to the invitation from SC Abbeville athletics for the most important meeting of Hauts-de-France due to the density of launchers present.

More than 20 French champions, 7 nationalities, 30 internationals will be looking for performance, eight days after the French elite championships.

“50% of the athletes were present in Angers, I didn’t expect such a turnout” said one of the organizers.

Tom Reux, final adjustments before the Olympics

French number 1 in the discus with 67m91 achieved at the Martinique meeting, the AC Bretilien discus thrower Tom Reux will be keen to beat the stadium record held by Croatian Roland Varga (62m64) in a competition where hopeful Marc Alexandre Delin (60m37) and seven other athletes crossed the 50-metre line.

Franck Elamba number 1 Frenchman in weight

Congolese by origin, 4th in the Rio Olympics, recently naturalized, Franconville member Franck Elamba holds the best French performance with 20m10.

“The stadium record he holds will be in great danger in a competition of incredible density. 10 athletes have already achieved more than 16 meters this year. We don’t do better in France” specifies Freddy Servant.

Exceptional field also in the women’s weight class. Three girls will compete for victory. Christine Gavarin (15m99) French champion 2023, Alexandra Aubry (15m87) 3rd in these same championships and Carine Bacchetta (15m87) French Open champion 2023 who holds the stadium record are very close.

A three-way duel refereed remotely by local Chloé Servant (13m72) who is gradually getting back into shape after her very serious knee injury.

Women’s javelin and discus to follow

The Belgian Pauline SMal (52m88), three times Belgian champion, as well as the junior Anaelle Etna (50m61), 2023 French champion, will share the forecast, but also watch out for the Vannes player Leila Danet, credited with 48m55, French junior champion this winter.

Favorite of the discus with her 56m42 Yelena Mokoka (Cergy Pontoise) will have to be wary of Maelle Phillipe 54m91, of the experienced Mélanie Pingeon whose record set in 2018 is 57m03 but also of the Moroccan Jihane Mrabet credited with 52m56 this season.

Note that in this competition, we will find a Paralympic athlete Gloria Agblemagnon who is preparing for the Paris Olympics, whose record stands at 45m15 but also 13m90 in the shot put.

To close this event, a meal under a marquee is offered to all participants as well as to the judges and partners.

The organizers are planning a shot put event from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. so that the people of Abbeville can test themselves in shot put.

Saturday July 6 from 2 p.m.
