In Mayenne community, carpooling assistance impacted by the region's disengagement

Mayenne community and the region encourage carpooling via a dedicated system. In 2023, 34,000 journeys have been subsidized. Tuesday November 26, 2024, Antoine Valprémit, vice-president in charge of territorial strategy at Mayenne community, announced that the Region was withdrawing from the system.

The Pays de la Loire Region will eliminate its support for the Blablacar Daily carpooling system. “We just found out this morning,” announced Antoine Valpremit, vice-president in charge of territorial strategy, during the Mayenne community council on Tuesday November 26, 2024.

Since September 2022, carpooling has been encouraged thanks to a system financed by the intercommunity and the Region: for each journey, drivers receive between €0.75 and €2 and passengers travel for free. “We put 50 cents, the Region put €2.50”, explains Antoine Valpremit.

Intermunicipality will not be able to “plug the holes”

The Region's disengagement from the system will take effect on December 31. To keep the offer the same, the intermunicipality should then go from 50 cents to €3 per journey. “We should multiply our investment budget on this subject by six. With the budget that we still have available before 2025, we can last three days,” calculates the chosen one. An investment that Mayenne community will not be able to make. “We won’t be able to plug the holes,” warns Antoine Valpremit.
