A refusal to comply led to a chase between a motorist and two municipal police officers, which ended with the hospitalization of one of the officers.

The fleeing driver injured a municipal police officer in the legs by hitting him with his vehicle, forcing his colleague to use his weapon as reported by Le Parisien.

An intervention that goes wrong

The events took place this Tuesday late afternoon, around 4:45 p.m. Checked by the national police in Colombes on avenue Kléber, the driver of a Peugeot 307 refused to comply, preferring to flee at high speed in the direction of (Val-d'Oise). In the absence of a national police motorized brigade, the municipal police (PM) were called upon to pursue the suspect.

Two PM bikers chased the motorist despite heavy traffic. The pursuit intensified when the fugitive crossed the Colombes bridge to reach a parking lot in Argenteuil, where he tried to hide. However, officers quickly located him.

One of the municipal police officers then positioned his motorcycle to block the exit from the parking lot. It was at this moment that the driver, in a desperate attempt to escape, hit the police officer twice, seriously injuring his legs. In response, his colleague opened fire with his service weapon.

A suspect still on the loose

Despite the shot fired by the municipal police officer, the motorist managed to flee. At the time of writing this article, the suspect is still actively sought by law enforcement.

For his part, the injured police officer was transported to the Louis Mourier hospital in Colombes, where he received treatment before leaving in the evening. He was prescribed 15 days of temporary incapacity for work (ITT). “We see that the municipal police of Colombes know how to take risks and work in good coordination with the national police,” declared the mayor of Colombes, Patrick Chaimovitch (Les Écologues).

A context of repeated violence

This new incident takes place in a context of recurring violence against the police in Colombes. In April 2020, two police officers were seriously injured after being hit by a motorist. A national police motorcyclist was crushed against a municipal police car during this dramatic episode.

Investigations are continuing to locate the driver and understand the exact circumstances of this incident, which once again illustrates the risks faced by officers on the ground.
