The map of all the candidates for the second round of the 2024 legislative elections, by city and by constituency.

POLITICS – From 577 to 501. From 4,000 to just over a thousand. Between the first and second rounds of the legislative elections, the number of constituencies to be filled and the number of candidates still in the running have shrunk considerably. On Sunday, June 30, 76 deputies – mainly from the National Rally – have already been elected, which leaves several million voters without a second round.

Elsewhere, the polls will be held on Sunday 7 July at the end of a week between the two rounds marked by the reactivation of a Republican front to block the far right at the gates of power.

Illustration in the number of triangular contests. While there were theoretically more than 300 based on the scores of the first round (participation mechanically lowered the threshold to qualify), more than 200 candidates withdrew, leaving an immense majority of duels (around 410). Most of them concern the left and the extreme right or the presidential majority and the extreme right; they more rarely pit the right against one of the three blocs that appeared in this campaign (New Popular Front, Together for the Republic, National Rally).

And of the five possible quadrangulars, there is only one left; in the 4th constituency of Vendée, the outgoing sovereignist Véronique Besse (39.3%), will face the RN candidate Jacques Proux (22.9%), that of the presidential majority Ilias Nagnonhou (18.5%) and that of the New Popular Front Julie Mariel-Godard (18.4%).

You will find the candidates qualified for the second round as well as the decision of the one who came in third position: to withdraw or to remain. This quasi-definitive data made on the basis of the declarations made before the submission of applications to the prefecture on Tuesday at 6 p.m. will be official when the Ministry of the Interior has published the official list of candidates.

The campaign will last until Friday 11:59 p.m.; polling stations will then open at 8 a.m. on Sunday or the day before in certain overseas territories.
