“I’ll go back every day!” Oriane decides, after “Billy the Cow-boy Hamster” was released. The screening was sold out. She accompanies her daughter Anahi, 4, who is already used to dark rooms. “I would like my daughter to enjoy the feature films and the festival’s activities,” she shares with enthusiasm.

For its 52nd edition, Fema is not skimping on the children’s program. “It’s a festival within the festival,” insists Sophie Mirouze, co-general delegate of the event. As for adults, the selection includes a tribute, this time dedicated to Claude Barras.” The Swiss filmmaker is thus honored with the screening of his animated films “My Life as a Zucchini” and “Sauvage”. Short films are also associated in an original way, such as the “Funny Beasts” selection, on the theme of animals.

Adapted animations

The festival is not limited to film screenings and offers workshops at the end of the sessions. Quizzes, collaborations with bookstores to present albums adapted for the screen, meetings with directors to debate and reveal the behind the scenes of a film, musical workshops, discovery of audio description… “The children are receptive. They do not hesitate to ask questions to the directors and participate”, explains Bahia Dominguez, in charge of young audiences. For “Flow”, the animated film most anticipated by the public and broadcast in preview this Thursday, July 3, the final workshop will focus on solidarity.

During the week, schools are the main audience. However, the two organizers regret not attracting more families. To encourage them, screenings were organized in May in media libraries. An awareness campaign that is bearing fruit: “I met some families again!”, she rejoices.
