A silence that continues around a thorny question. The deputies of the New Popular Front (NFP) of Côte-d'Or, Océane Godard, Catherine Hervieu and Pierre Pribetich, are currently criticized by the federation of Republicans in their department for not having taken a position concerning the proposed law of La France Insoumise (LFI) aimed at repealing the offense of advocating terrorism.
This offense, introduced to repress comments praising terrorist acts, is a measure presented as essential by many political leaders to prevent radicalization and to deal with terrorist threats. The proposal to repeal it was seen by many as a controversial initiative by LFI, part of an approach considered by its opponents as radical and destabilizing for society.
The Republicans of Côte-d'Or, represented by their president François-Xavier Dugourd and their departmental secretary Guillaume Ruet, publicly asked the three NFP deputies to clarify their position. They emphasize that the current silence of these elected officials is “ deafening“, particularly in consideration of the support they received from LFI to be elected, and while this subject is eminently sensitive, recalling the multiple attacks which have plunged France into mourning in recent years, from Charlie Hebdo to Samuel Paty.
François-Xavier DUGOURD and Guillaume RUET call on these deputies to “ dissociate themselves from their allies » from La France Insoumise, describing this alliance as “ unnatural and anti-republican“. The opposition party recalls that, as early as June 2024, they had judged that the union between the NFP and LFI, under the aegis of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, was a “moral fault”.
The Republicans thus accuse these deputies of “ satisfy ideological delusions » from the leader of LFI rather than focusing on solving the problems of the French. The emphasis is placed on the need, for the representatives of the Socialist Party and the Ecologists of the Côte-d'Or, to “take their responsibilities” in this affair, in order to clarify their position in the face of a proposal which divides the political class .
This press release from the Republicans is an illustration of growing tension within the French opposition, while ephemeral political alliances now seem threatened by deep disagreements on key issues. The position of the three NFP deputies will therefore be closely scrutinized in the coming days, both by their political allies and their adversaries, while the debate on the fight against terrorism remains a national priority.
Press release of November 25, 2024:
Repeal the offense of glorifying terrorism: NFP deputies from the Côte-d'Or must clarify their position
Following the bill from the deputies of La France Insoumise (LFI) to repeal the offense of glorifying terrorism, the three Côte-d'Oriens deputies from the New Popular Front (NFP), Océane GODARD, Catherine HERVIEU and Pierre PRIBETICH, have still not positioned themselves.
Elected thanks to the votes of France Insoumise, the silence of these three parliamentarians from our department on this extremely sensitive subject is deafening.
We call on these three deputies who call themselves democrats, to clarify their position on the issue, remembering the victims of Islamist terrorism, whether during the attacks on Charlie Hebdo, the Hyper Cacher, the Bataclan or even Samuel PATY and Dominique BERNARD.
We call on these three Côte-d'Oriens NFP deputies to dissociate themselves from their LFI allies, to break with this unnatural and above all, anti-republican alliance.
We said it in June 2024, uniting with Jean-Luc MELENCHON's France Insoumise is a moral fault.
Once again, we are witnessing the attempt to destabilize our country by these Insoumis deputies who are more attached to satisfying the ideological delusions of their leader-guru than to solving the problems of the French.
We call on the leaders of the Socialist Party and the Ecologists of the Côte-d'Or to take their responsibilities.
