He is eagerly awaited by the crowd, who have come in their thousands, on the Champ de Mars in Lille (North). It was there, in the midst of a delirious audience, that Dany Boon arrived dressed in white – outfit of all the Olympic flame bearers – around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2. Since the early hours of the morning, the flame has been traveling through the North, with the Capital of Flanders being the last stopover city.

The actor and director, whose popularity is intact in the lands where he was born, made a tour of the crowd, to loud cheers. Then he proceeded to the burning of the cauldronpositioned opposite the Napoleon Bridge. A highlight, followed bya warm speech from Dany Boon : “Thank you all!” he began, with the “ch’nord” accent that we know well. “Bravo for this magnificent moment of fraternity, sharing, emotion, love and humanity, and long live the Olympic Games and long live Lille!” he continued.

“It’s always extraordinary to come back to the North,” says Dany Boon

He then took part in a photo shoot with the spectators in the front rows, before returning to the symbolism of this role as flame bearer with the press. “It’s wonderful to be here for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Above all, it’s about values ​​of friendship, respect… The idea that this flame crosses countries so that there is peace between peoples… That’s what the rings of the five continents express.”

Of course, the star of “Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis” – who also specified that he visited Line Renaud three days ago – had a word for the territory, which he still loves as much. “It’s always extraordinary to come back to the North”, a “welcoming land” with strong values ​​of “sharing” and “tolerance”, he further described.

Miss France, Eve Gilles, was also on the Champ de Mars early in the evening. She was the penultimate torchbearer. Her loved ones were gathered for the occasion: “It was a lot of sharing. It brings together all the values ​​of sport, being united, forgetting all the worries of everyday life.”
