In Izegem this time the decision is made and irrevocable. The previously proposed coalition between Vlaams Belang and STIP+ will finally take place. It was canceled by STIP+ because several of its members had received threats because of their collaboration with Vlaams Belang. According to the head of the STIP+ list, Kurt Grymonprez, calm has returned to the municipality, which makes a coalition with Vlaams Belang possible.

“It is completely unacceptable for members of our party or any other party to be bombarded with all kinds of messages,” Kurt Grymonprez said. “We should never accept such a thing in a democracy. It is important to sound the alarm at such a time.”

According to Mr. Grymonprez, the choice of Vlaams Belang was not obvious. “On the one hand, we have a narrow majority, but on the other hand, we also felt the greatest thirst for a new wind which could only blow in Izegem with the Vlaams Belang”, declared the leader of the list. “Only with the Vlaams Belang did the discussions finally result in a positive and sustained vision for Izegem. The local opinions of the Vlaams Belang are closely aligned with ours and a stable and lasting bond of trust has been established over the course of of the last few weeks.
