Before the Telethon donations and Christmas gifts as well as the end of year gifts, here comes the subscription for the Cathedral (Val-d'Oise).

An opportunity for a public sensitive to the protection of heritage to participate in the collection operation for the restoration of the building, the cost of which promises to be high. No less than 15 million euros.

An agreement was signed, Saturday November 23, 2024, in the cathedral between the City and the Heritage Foundation, which opened an online prize pool, with an initial objective of €100,000.

Move the cursor

“The project is ambitious but achievable,” thinks Philippe Legrand, departmental delegate of the Heritage Foundationwhich supports the municipality in its fundraising efforts.

An urn was placed during the concert which followed the signing of the convention. Among the 300 spectators present, many have already made donations.

The launch of the subscription takes place before the end of the year “to allow donors to have a tax deduction”, specifies the representative of the organization helping with heritage preservation.

The agreement, signed for three years, can be extended depending on the donations made.

“In order to adjust the cursor according to the abundance of donations. »

Chapel of the Passion

The subscription initiated in Pontoise is the most ambitious organized in Val-d'Oise.

“In Livilliers, a collection raised €99,000 to restore the church bell tower. In L'Isle-Adam, in less than a year, €60,000 in donations had been collected. I am confident of reaching €100,000 for Pontoise Cathedral,” confides Philippe Legrand.

If the entire church, which became a cathedral in 1966, is concerned, the future emergency restoration project will first target the vaults and frames.

A first phase of work will focus on the repair of the Passion Chapel, a 16th century element.e century, which must be completely resumed.

An artistic and historical space, made up of remarkable objects and architecture. An altar, paintings, an antependium (decorative canvas element), so many elements that need to be restored in addition to the interior and exterior walls.

“Its restoration will serve to prove the importance of the restoration mission and will encourage donations,” hopes Philippe Legrand.

Patrons club

If individuals are the first targets of the collection, the business world will also be approached within the framework of patronage actions. A Saint-Maclou patrons' club could be created to bring together business leaders keen to contribute to

“the momentum of sharing for this building”, wishes Stéphanie Von Euw, mayor (Lr) of Pontoise, who initiated the rescue operation of the cathedral.

“A project for a patrons’ club in Val-d’Oise is still relevant,” announces the delegate of the Heritage Foundation, who plans to launch one at the departmental level.

“As soon as the one initiated by the mayor of Pontoise is launched, we will join in,” he promises.
