Marine Le Pen’s party will face candidates from the presidential majority in all constituencies, except in Saumur North where an LR representative is qualified. Several triangular shapes are emerging in the department.

Two years ago, the Macronie candidates came out on top in the first round of the legislative elections in Maine-et-Loire – before winning without firing a shot a week later. Yesterday’s scenario resembles this to a large extent since, apart from in the Saumur Sud constituency – by thirteen votes -, they all won their first round. Including in Cholet where Denis Masséglia is ahead of Gilles Bourdouleix by almost 1,700 votes.

The most right-wing constituency in the department, Saumur Nord places the National Rally and Édouard Bourgeault in first place, far ahead of the outgoing MP Anne-Laure Blin (Les Républicains). As in 2022, the Macronie candidate is excluded from the competition.

This first round theoretically opens the door to several three-way races. But, wherever they came in third, the candidates of the New Popular Front should withdraw in accordance with the national instructions of their camp. As a result, only the 1re 2eet 7e constituencies appear to offer the possibility of a three-way second round.
