Fate befalls Emmanuel Macron: it is decidedly written that he will not be able to take glory from the restoration of Notre-Dame. Everything gets in his way and fate is against him.
He has already been refused permission to speak in the cathedral. It is true, as Georges Michel recalled here, that even Saint Louis wearing the crown of thorns had not dared to do so. Rejected by the clergy, he will therefore have to be content, for his secular preaching, with the doorstep – meaning the square.
Then last Friday, a personality preceded him to enter the cathedral with great pomp: Notre-Dame, to say the least, was the first to cross the threshold of his house. The “pillar statue” has returned to its place.
Grilled politeness
And now, this November 21, Elon Musk is suddenly ignoring politeness and, before him, is honoring Notre-Dame to the whole world: a short video of unknown origin, showing the restored interior of Notre-Dame, had been circulating on social networks for a few days… magnificent, astonishing, but without much impact, because the accounts which relayed it did not have many subscribers. Except that Elon Musk accidentally picked it up and posted it, under these few words: “ Notre-Dame has been restored! » At this moment, the number of views obviously soared, numbering in the millions. Elon Musk instantly showed Internet users from the four corners of the globe, dazzled, the interior of the resurrected Notre-Dame… thereby underlining the immense power of his social network.
His comment is factual, sober, barely four words – Notre-Dame has been restored -, but it's all in the final exclamation point: Elon Musk impresses more often than he is impressed. And as a good autistic Asperger, he is unfit for the agreed rules of the social game which are fake compliments, superficial politeness, overplayed sycophancy. To illustrate this Saint John Chrysostom side, his father, in a television report, recounts that as a child, in primary school, Elon was violently hit by a little friend whose father had just committed suicide. Why was this boy mad at Elon? Because the latter had said out loud that the act of the said father was “ stupid ». « It may be true, but it cannot be said! », laments in retrospectin front of the camera, Elon Musk's father. In short, when Elon Musk posts an exclamation point, it's because he really wants to exclaim. In this case, ecstasy.

Elon Musk therefore salutes a great French success. If he makes rockets, we French people have been building cathedrals for centuries. Which also rise to the sky, but even higher. There are few areas in which France can still arouse admiration. That she was able, by means of modern technology, to rediscover ancient know-how to redo the gestures, with humility and application, of the artisans of yesteryear is one of them.
In the meantime, Elon Musk, who shares the same initials as Emmanuel Macron – and who is his inverted mirror: sobriety against logorrhea, action against seduction, freedom against corseted thinking -, has outdone him . As some have ironically noted, it was he, without seeming to touch it, who inaugurated (virtually) Notre-Dame.
