Less than a month before the reopening of Notre-Dame de Paris, certain secrets surrounding the reconstruction of the Gothic cathedral have been revealed. We now know what happened to the burned debris of the monument.
Elements which will be analyzed by archaeologists. Almost five years after its fire on April 15, 2019, Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral will soon be reopened.
A key stage, which will be celebrated with an official ceremony on Saturday December 7, the day before the first mass. These events come at the end of a titanic project, which will have required the efforts of hundreds of companions.
Among the information recently revealed on the heart of the work, the Drac (Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs) indicated that the debris resulting from the fire had all been preserved, with a view to being studied.
“It is an extraordinary source of documentation on this building that everyone knew but which, in reality, had never been well studied. This fire, which is an absolute tragedy, also has extraordinary potential for knowledge, science and research,” explained its director Laurent Roturier, during a visit with the press.
Among the elements of the building recovered after being hit by the flames remain fragments of sheet metal, a bell and an angel's head. Pieces of wooden beams were also collected after the fire and can soon be sifted by archaeologists.
