Situation
In connection with Storm Bert which is crossing the British Isles, the wind is getting stronger this weekend until Monday. The north-west of France as well as the west of the Pyrenees, the Basque country, Limousin and the Massif Central, but also the Rhône valley and Isère are experiencing strong winds. Gusts can occasionally reach 80 to 90 km/h, up to 110 km/h in the mountains and on exposed seaside capes and coasts.
This episode of strong winds has nothing to compare in terms of intensity with the Caetano storm. However, this episode of strong wind is more widespread and lasting (more than 24 hours), which is why we have issued this alert.
Note that the low tidal coefficients (38) will not cause any risk of marine submersion at high tide despite these strong winds. However, these strong winds are accompanied by rain which will increase on Sunday in Brittany as well as in the Ardèche Cévennes from Sunday to Monday evening where a Cévennes episode of low to moderate intensity is expected.
Observation
Saturday at the end of the day, Storm Bert reached a remarkably low pressure of nearly 930 hPa at its center. Located in the west of Scotland, it causes violent winds in Ireland. Its influence is felt in France, near the English Channel, with gusts reaching more than 100 km/h in Fécamp, Barneville-Carteret and Ouessant.
Evolution
This evening, Ahead of storm Bert, the southerly wind rises and strengthens quickly, reaching 90 km/h this evening along the Channel, up to 100 km/h in Finistère.
This nightthe Channel coasts are experiencing strong winds, with the Breton coasts and the Manche department being particularly impacted with gusts of 100 km/h.
Sundaythe day is strongly windy near the Channel with gusts reaching 100 km/h, up to 120 km/h on the exposed capes and coasts of Finistère and northern Cotentin. At the same time, a southerly wind storm rises over the high Pyrenees which sweeps across the Basque country.
In the evening and at night from Sunday to Monday, Ahead of the Atlantic disturbance linked to Storm Bert, the southerly wind continues to blow strongly over the Pyrenees and near the English Channel. These strong winds extend towards Midi-Pyrénées, Languedoc, the Massif Central and the Rhône valley up to the Alps. In the mountains, gusts reach more than 100 km/h and 90 km/h in the valleys in the valleys facing due north.
Mondaywith the progression of the disturbance towards the center of France, the wind continues to blow very strongly from the southwest to the center-east. A brief episode of heavy stormy rain affected the Cévennes on Monday, with accumulations which could very occasionally reach more than 150 mm.
