With the advancement of technology, cars offer more and more driving aids. For better control on a snowy road, there is a driving mode that is often forgotten, although it can be of great use during this period.
For several days, France has been swept by a fairly significant meteorological disturbance. Throughout the country, rain, wind and cold are expected. In around ten departments, snowfall, sometimes heavy, was also recorded. With this configuration, road traffic is therefore very disrupted.
However, there are many car models that offer better control on snow-covered roads, reports the Internet User. However, this feature is only found on vehicles equipped with automatic gearboxes, manual gearboxes being easier to drive in these types of conditions. To take advantage of this option, simply switch to “Snow” driving mode, which is located alongside the traditional “Sport” and “Eco” modes.
What is “snow” mode?
In short, “ Snow mode changes the driving dynamics of the vehicle to ensure better grip and above all greater control on snowy surfaces », explains the specialized site Otogo. With this “Snow” mode, the vehicle automatically reduces engine power and accelerator sensitivity, so as to allow the vehicle to better adhere to the asphalt when it is covered in snow.
It is on vehicles with four-wheel drive that the effect of this mode is most noticeable. However, on other types of drivetrain (traction or propulsion) the “Snow” mode also has its effect. By activating this functionality, the motorist is helped in controlling his vehicle.
However, the best solution in case of snow remains snow tires or chains. Let us remember, moreover, that since November 1, motorists in 34 departments must equip their vehicles with this equipment. Since the implementation of this measure, any driver who does not comply with these regulations is liable to a fine of 135 euros (4th class fine).
