A power supply problem in the Landes caused a breakdown on a Hendaye-Bordeaux TER late Friday, November 22, reports France Bleu Pays Basque. Two hundred people were stuck for more than four hours in their train without light or heating and 400 passengers on another train, Paris-Tarbes, were also impacted.
Two hundred passengers, who left by TER from Hendaye around 8 p.m. on Friday, found themselves stuck on their journey to Bordeaux, near Ychoux, due to a catenary problem. There was no longer any electricity to run the trains. Without light or electricity, with winter temperatures, it was around midnight that customers were able to board a Hendaye-Paris TGV. They arrived in Bordeaux at 3 a.m., seven hours after their departure. Four hundred passengers on a Paris-Tarbes TGV were also victims of this breakdown, four hours late in their arrival.
The SNCF apologized for the inconvenience and provides exceptional compensation of 150% for TER passengers. The SNCF indicates that traffic will be restored to 100% from Saturday noon.
