The municipal council of the new commune of Sainte-Mère-Église (Manche) met on Tuesday November 19, 2024 in the Carquebut village hallunder the presidency of the mayorAlain Holley.

The search for doctors continues

The mayor notably informed the council that he is still in the process of search for a solution pour replace doctors at Sainte-Mère-Église since the two Doctors Peschard are retiring in 2025.

It is very worrying to know that in a few months, there will be no more doctors in the town, even though the population needs them and we also have two nursing homes. It is also the responsibility of the State to guarantee the health of the population.

Alain Holley

Alain Holley explained that in November 2026there would be junior doctors available, who could come to Sainte-Mère-Église. Currently, they follow their training under a regime of supervised autonomy. “They must join a health center for a year and welcoming them here will give us two doctors, but it will also be necessary house them».

The mayor suggested that the old police stationor even the parish house could possibly be considered as housing for future doctors.

Terrace refused for a business

Alain Holley explained that the municipality was requested by a trader to Sainte-Mère-Église for get a terrace in the current parking lotsIn rue du Général-de-Gaulle .

The planned terrace would be positioned instead minute pitchesin front shops and cafes . “It’s a little complicated,” the mayor said.

These locations are useful for people who stop for a short time. We will be deprived of parking spaces – especially during the tourist season from May to September. If we give permission to one, we must give it to others, the sidewalks are already wide, and we must be fair.

After a discussion, the request was refused with 15 votes against and 4 abstentions.

A synthetic football field project

Councilor Thierry Ourry informed the council that he is awaiting quotes for a feasibility study in order to install a synthetic turf football field in Sainte-Mère-Église.

The land in Picauville is now closed for winter and the young players are currently meeting in Sainte-Mère-Église to play but we need the spotlights at least so that they can finish their training on Wednesday evenings during the winter months.

Alain Holley reported that after a recent meeting with the Americanswho settle on the football field every June 6 – which prevents football matches – it was decided that they could go to the field of college . “This avoids to damagethe ground and will help us to keep it in good condition “, he said.

The Americans especially don't want to prevent children from playing, and they are happy to go to the college field which is right next door.
