Running in underwear, at night, in 3°C, to support the Telethon, what do you think? This is what Jean-Patrick Scheiner is proposing, this running enthusiast, who imagined, last year, the Warmo Slip Race, a short race in underwear which will take place on Saturday, November 23, in the village from Warmeriville, north of Reims (Marne). But how the hell did he get this idea?
“I finished a trail in my underwear because I had just finished a week of skiing where I had eaten a lot of cheese, very fatty. I retained water because of the salt, I was suffocating in my legs, says this runner from Boult-sur-Suippe, the neighboring village. It really made people at the Warmeriville club laugh and every time there was a race in underwear somewhere, I was identified on the networks. » Because yes, as surprising as it may seem, similar events have already taken place this year. In Strasbourg or near Rennes, for example.
“It started as a joke, but it grew a lot and we brought together 80 people and raised 558 euros for the Telethon last year,” says Jean-Patrick Scheiner. It was incredible! There was distrust, especially among the girls, but when people undressed, no one looked at each other anymore, because everyone was in the same outfit. And no one complained about the cold. » For the organizer of the Warmo Slip Race, such a race, “it's not at all voyeuristic, it's very good-natured and festive”.
This year, the route was nevertheless established on the greenway which runs along the Suippe river, in order to be sheltered from view which could be indisposed by such a procession. The race will last around fifteen minutes, starting at 6 p.m., and a competition for the most original underwear is planned. “The record in France for a race in underwear is around 125 participants, we would like to beat it,” says the organizer of the event who assures that he already has plenty of ideas for future editions.
