Revealed last October, Tesla's Cybercab is on display to the Parisian public from Saturday November 23 until December 8. CNEWS had the opportunity to closely observe the taxi of the future in preview.
Will the future of the vehicle take shape without a steering wheel and without pedals? This is the bet chosen by Tesla with the Cybercab. Unveiled last October at a conference in California, the robotaxi from Elon Musk's company is on display to the general public in its showroom in Madeleine, Paris, from this Saturday until December 8, and we were able to observe it closely this Thursday, November 21.
Just like VTC services, Tesla's robotaxi can be controlled via an application. Once ordered, the vehicle will travel to the pick-up location where the passenger(s) can sit down.
This remote control will be possible in particular with the help of Autopilot, which reduces the accident rate by 10 compared to a conventional vehicle according to several studies carried out, as well as Tesla Vision.
Two elytra doors
As for appearance, Tesla's Cybercab, between sedan and coupe, has a futuristic design, which is a trademark of the Californian company. Just like some iconic sports vehicles, the Cybercab has a wing-shaped door opening.
Still on the outside, the trunk of the autonomous taxi has a capacity that is still unknown but should be able to store two classic suitcases and two cabin suitcases. Ideal for tourists going to an airport. On the other hand, no sign of a rear-view mirror, since it will be an autonomous vehicle.
A ride in a Cybercab “cheaper than a bus ticket”
The interior, although sober at first glance, is made up of two seats with ample legroom, two USB-C sockets, but above all a 21-inch screen serving as an interface for the vehicle's passengers.
According to Elon Musk's promises, a trip with the Cybercab should cost less than a bus ticket, while its purchase price for individuals would be 30,000 dollars (around 28,600 euros), with the possibility of make it available to other users.
For now, the Cybercab should arrive on the American market around 2027, while the European market, also targeted by Tesla, does not yet have a marketing date set due to legislation on autonomous driving.
