This Saturday, November 23, in the Occitanie Cup, kick-off at 6 p.m.
Cup matches are always separate matches and it is not the players of Avenir Foot Lozère (AFL) who will say the opposite. First there was the Coupe de France. But the adventure was short-lived this season, with a defeat in the second round on the Fenouillet lawn.
Facing the residents of R3, the Mendois led 2-0 before being caught behind and losing on penalties. After this disillusionment, Nabil Zanina's men are now competing for another cup, that of Occitanie. A difficult competition where all the teams in the region want to compete and, why not, put their name on the list of winners.
7-2 victory in the previous round
For the AFL, the adventure in this competition continues this Saturday, November 23, on the Clermontaise field, as part of the 32e of final. This is the second match that the Mendois will play after a first round played against the Larzac Vallées team. It was October 23. The AFL won 7-2, against a team playing in D3.
For this match against Clermont-l'Hérault, the coach could be tempted to rotate part of his group, handicapped in recent weeks by suspended or injured players. Which would give certain elements of the reserve team the opportunity to have playing time in the flag team.
Redeeming yourself from the heavy defeat at Lunel
This Saturday, neither team will be given favorites since they are both playing in Regional 1. Better still, they are both in group A and reading the ranking confirms that the match will most certainly be close. With 11 points, Clermontaise is 6e with two more units than the AFL, 9e.
But the Lozériens will above all want to make amends for their heavy defeat conceded in the championship last weekend on the Lunel pitch (5-0). Qualifying on the Héraultais field would be an excellent way to make amends.
A big match for the women
No other men's team will be on the field this weekend. The women are also playing an important match. Currently second in the championship in D1 with 21 points, they travel to the field of Espoir Foot 88, leader of the championship with 24 points. Winning would therefore allow them to come back up to par and remain completely in the fight for advancement to the next level. Kick-off this Saturday at 7 p.m.
