FIRE. A Sherbrooke couple saw their vacation plans radically change late Friday morning when their trailer was completely destroyed by a fire in Drummondville.

Around 11 a.m., a citizen who was driving north on Highway 55 noticed that smoke was escaping from his trailer.

“We were heading towards Deschaillons. I took the (Jean-De Brébeuf) exit and parked. I tried to put out the flames with my portable extinguisher, but it was way too hot,” the owner explained to L’Express.

A tugboat from the Normand Dionne company helped the victim detach the trailer from the utility vehicle. “When I saw this, I went to help him. It’s sad for them, but at least the truck was spared,” explained the tow truck operator.

Even though the firefighters arrived quickly, the damage was done. The trailer was a total loss. The vacationing couple did not understand what could have happened.

“We left this morning. I’m worried because our medication was in the trailer. I hope we’ll be able to get new prescriptions before dinner,” added the woman, dismayed by the events.

Traffic on Boulevard Jean-De Brébeuf was slightly disrupted while the firefighters carried out the extinguishing.

The exact cause has not been determined, but the fire is believed to have been accidental.
