Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud (Gr. I): Iresine’s first objective

Left to rest since his return from Japan at the end of November, where he finished ninth in the Japan Cup (Gr. I – 2,400 m), then author of a victorious comeback in mid-May at Lyon-Parilly, the champion Iresine faces its first major objective of the year, this Sunday June 30 in Saint-Cloud. Its developer, Jean-Pierre Gauvin, told us: “After returning from his trip to Japan, Iresine went, as every winter, to rest in Puy-de-Dôme, at Mr. Thellier’s. He then returned to training on February 1st, but it is never easy to get back into the swing of things after leaving the field. Indeed, we were patient to have him at his best, because he also had to be treated for lymphangitis (Editor’s note: bacterial infection of the lymphatic channels). Then, he slowly regained his good feelings and I decided, ten days before the Prix Bedel, to give him a public gallop on the Lyon-Parilly racecourse. That day, he gave me satisfaction and the timing was therefore perfect for him to be lined up in the list on May 18, where he, moreover, did not miss his target.

His preparation went well

The trainer based in Saint-Cyr-les-Vignes (42) has since done everything possible to ensure that the son of Manduro is at his best in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud (Gr. I): “His preparation went well even if, because of the rain that fell on Saturday June 22, he had to, once again, go to the Lyon-Parilly racecourse to do some final work towards his goal of June 30 . Moreover, during this public gallop, Marie (Vélon) confirmed to me that the sensations were good, even if she remained good with him. I am obviously satisfied with his current condition, because now I ride him in the morning in training. As for Group I on Sunday, discovering Saint-Cloud should not disorient him and, with the current weather, the conditions of the day should be to his liking. The horse will also travel with Acclaim. The latter, who will defend his chances in the Prix des Étangs de Saint-Quentin during this meeting, allows Iresine to stay calm during the journey. Then, in relation to his performance, as well as his recovery, it is not impossible that he will be aligned in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Gr. I)July 27 at Ascot. The horse is engaged and everything is still possible at 27 days interval. Otherwise, he will rest all summer and will be back during the Prix Foy (Gr. II) from September 15th, at ParisLongchamp.

Geldings at the heart of the debate

On the subject of the debate on geldings and therefore on Iresine and many other French horses who have shone brightly in recent weeks, it is of course frustrating not to have access to certain races, like the Arc de Triomphe, especially since the rules are different at stranger. These remain competitions where the goal is for the best to win, whole or castrated horses. Now, for the younger generations, I think the current rules are good.
